Does it surprise you that while we affirm the truth of “fire and brimstone,” that Explore Messiah…? has a broader concept of Hell that includes emptiness and loneliness? Which terrifies you more – fire or being alone for all eternity? Why?

While I believe that Hell includes the fire and brimstone and the gnashing of teeth as described in Scripture, I also believe that Hell includes the absence of many things — light, hope, love, joy, companionship, laughter. I also believe that these concepts are also taught in Scripture. The physical pain of Hell will be horrendous but it will be the emotional and mental pain of Hell that will be the greatest agony that anyone will experience.

I agree with you completely. I believe the worst part of hell will be our memories. Memories of lost opportunities.
